Best Kept Secret festival, I fell truly, madly and crazy in love with you. The line-up and the food made this paradise such a winner and the place felt like a new home in a modern baby jungle.
Now let me drop few lines about this secret cause I’d love to share it with you. The festival was located in Beekse Bergen, the Netherlands. You could go on a safari trip next door (fence, I guess) or have a swim in the freezing cold, yet blue lagoon water. The setting was illuminating, especially by night. Think of the combination: magical woods, twilight, sunset, baby mountains and a big open sky scene (no skyscrapers or lanterns!). On top of that, the festival literally had everything you need: actual clean toilets (bye bye Dixie!) to phone chargers, the best food trucks ever, a little vintage market, cocktails and bungalows if you prefer glamping over mud and morning disco next to your tent.
Part one: Food
For vegans and veggies the food options were an absolute dream too. All kinds of juice bars, mini fruit supermarkets, nacho’s et cetera. Let’s have a quick look before heading to the music review (see next article).
Vleesch noch Visch offered vegetarian Greek Gyros, which could easily become vegan minus the tzatziki. I daresay actual meat lovers couldn’t even guess this was soy meat instead of the actual real thing. Hooray for veggie foodporn.Just Like Your Mom ticks all the boxes when it comes to a smashing vegan menu. I guess a lot of people in the queue didn’t even realize they were standing in line for a completely cruelty free menu to die for (pun intended). I tried their chili burger and I must say this was a five-star dinner. Oh and by the way, they also have vegan kebab, BBQ burgers, soup and cupcakes, in case you were wondering.Sweet Wheels is like a liquid candy store on wheels. All fresh fruits and veggies in one non soda-pop drink but with a sweetness you can’t say no to. Head-over-heels with theseweels, baby.
When the sun has set and the adrenaline heat left your body, it’s time for something hot. You can either take it easy and get your cup of authentic coffee from The Village Coffee and Music or you can go hardcore with veggies at Buskruid. The latter means getting a cup of hot noodle soup with fresh cilantro, soy, crispy onions and veggies. Definitely got my vitamin level up with this one.
Meneer Temaki is a food host at almost every good food truck festival and serves freshly made sushi rolls at the ever hip and happening Foodhallen in Amsterdam. Good news, because these sushi boys let you choose between the fish version or the veggie option. So vegan sushi? Hell yeah it’s happening! Perfect festival snack when you are craving something savory and healthy.Of course there were SO many more incredible places but therefore I recommend you to go to Best Kept Secret festival next year and check the website every now and then. Some juicy reviews might be coming up.
